Artemis III – Lesson 2: Building a Strong Project Team
Lesson Summary
In this lesson: First, students will consider how symbols can convey information and examine examples of mission patches. Then they will work together to create their own mission patch for this project. Next, they will explore what symbols they might use for their personal expression. Finally, they will record their mission patch in their MDL.

Lesson Level Question: How can Earth’s water cycle provide inspiration for clean water systems on the Moon?
Engage
Students will consider how to convey information about themselves, their communities, and the project using only symbols.
Explore
Students will examine several mission patches from former NASA missions and try to understand what each mission was about based on the patch. Then, they will learn more about the patches and the missions they represent to help launch their own patch designs.
Explain
Students will choose a team name and design their mission patch.
Elaborate
Students will learn more about a symbol that interests them.
Evaluate
Students will document their work and learning for this lesson by meeting the deliverables outlined in MO-2.
Extend (optional)
Students will investigate NASA careers related to the work of this lesson.
