We are excited to share that NASA’s Artemis II mission, the first crewed mission in the Artemis campaign, is approaching. Artemis II will send four astronauts on a roughly 10 day journey around the Moon, helping to validate the systems and hardware needed for future human lunar exploration.
NASA is currently targeting a launch on April 1st, 2026. Dates may shift, so we encourage you to stay tuned as we get closer to launch.

For the 2025-2026 Challenge, NESSP developed eight Mission Objectives (MO) inspired by NASA’s missions that study the Earth and its sister planet Venus! Registered Challenge teams documented their progress by completing the MOs in a Mission Development Log (MDL) and submit their materials to NESSP for team recognition. The ROADS From Earth to Venus is an excellent team activity suitable for in-class group projects, school robotics, programming, other club activities, Scout troops, and other community organizations.
- Earth and planetary science, including the similarities and differences between Earth and Venus
- Carbon cycles, carbon reservoirs, and the movement of carbon through planetary systems
- Atmospheric science, greenhouse gases, and the greenhouse effect
- Remote sensing, imaging, spatial resolution, and field of view
- Robotics, computer programming, and sensor-based data collection
- Scientific investigation, modeling, data analysis, and evidence-based explanations
- Exploring NASA careers and envisioning future STEM roles
- Teamwork, documentation, reflection, and scientific communication
- Document their work in Science & Engineering Notebooks and a Mission Development Log
- Design a mission patch representing their team, community, and mission
- Model how carbon moves through their local environment and create a carbon cycle game for Venus
- Investigate the greenhouse effect and use evidence to explain why Earth and Venus are so different today
- Use kite-mounted imaging tools to collect, classify, and analyze remote-sensing data
- Program a rover to navigate a course, collect color-sensor data, and identify simulated rock compositions
- Research NASA careers and create a graphic novel or video interview about a future NASA role
