Before filling out the form, please read the frequently asked questions below.
What am I registering for? You are registering to become a Mission Advisor for the ROADS from Earth to Venus Challenge. As a Mission Advisor, you will guide a group of students you recruit through the eight Mission Objectives described in the Challenge Manual.
What is a Mission Advisor? A Mission Advisor is an adult who mentors and supports a student team. This person could be a classroom teacher, club advisor, Scout leader, or other educator. The Mission Advisor is responsible for all communications between NESSP and the team, including registration, progress updates, and submission of results.
What are the guidelines for student teams? Each team must include 3 to 6 students in grades 3–12 who work together to complete the challenge. Team members must be enrolled in school or under age 18 at the time of registration.
What if I want to mentor more than one team? We encourage educators to mentor multiple teams! After your organization has signed a contract, you can let us know how many teams you plan to mentor. You may also request additional sets of supplies to support multiple teams.
I’m just using the ROADS from Earth to Venus Companion Course with students and don’t plan to mentor a Challenge team. Do I still need to fill this out? No. However, please let us know if you are using the Companion Course by completing this short form (Companion Course Form). This form helps us report to NASA who is using our materials.
I have more questions. We understand! The best way to learn more is to attend an Information Session (see our Events Page). You can also email your questions to info@nwessp.org.
Please verify your contact information: We’ve filled in this section using the information you previously provided. Please check that it’s still current and make any needed updates.
Central Washington University (CWU) in Ellensburg, WA, administers the NASA grant that supports NESSP. As part of this responsibility, CWU requires contracts for this year’s NESSP National Student Challenge to comply with Washington State youth program laws and to address liability concerns.
The contract requires schools, school districts, or organizations serving as Mission Advisors to:
We understand that these requirements may create challenges for some informal educators, club mentors, or homeschool groups. We apologize for the inconvience.
Once your organization’s information is received, CWU will prepare a customized contract (see example) and send it electronically to your organization’s Authorizing Official for review and signature. The contract can be signed electronically via Docusign, and additional documents, such as proof of insurance, can be submitted via email.
You may also download the Assumption of Risk and Release of Claims form now. NESSP will ask you to upload the completed forms for your team members after your contract is signed and once you are ready to request supplies.
An Authorized Official is a person who has the legal authority to enter into agreements or contracts on behalf of your school, district, or organization. This person is responsible for reviewing and signing the contract with Central Washington University (CWU) for participation in the NESSP National Student Challenge.
Typically, the Authorized Official is someone in an administrative or leadership role, such as:
For informal education organizations, clubs, or homeschool groups, the Authorized Official might be:
If you are unsure who this person is, contact your school or organization’s administration office to confirm who is authorized to sign contracts on behalf of your organization.
Review and verify the prefilled information below, or complete any blank fields, so we can prepare your organization’s challenge contract.
