2021 Professional Development — Registration 🗓

from to
Scheduled Event

NESSP will offer several sessions of professional development for teachers this summer and autumn. All sessions are free and supplies will be provided, although participants will need to provide their own computer (and internet connection, in the case of virtual workshops).

Learn hands-on STEM activities to engage middle and high school -aged students! Topics to be covered support NGSS and are aligned with NASA missions. Projects are relevant to our new ROADS challenge for the upcoming 2021–2022 school year — or can supplement your existing course.

These workshops will cover the curriculum for the companion course to our next ROADS student challenge, and as such the sessions are intended for educators currently teaching in classrooms. We will hold a workshop intended specifically for coaches/mentors of ROADS challenge teams at a later date.

August 12–13, 2021 — In-person workshop in Adrian, OR

  • 9 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. (each day)
  • Capacity: 15 participants

Supplies will be provided at the workshop (no supplies will be provided in advance). In addition to supplies, participants will also be eligible for a stipend of $120. Stipend payments will be made via paper check mailed 2–3 weeks after the workshop.

The material does span two days, so participants should plan to attend both days of the workshop. Oregon teachers who do complete both days will be eligible for 12–16 clock hours. We apologize that we cannot award clock hours for teachers from other states for this workshop.

COVID-19 precautions

Participants must be masked during the workshop and maintain social distancing. Supplies will be cleaned between the first and second days of the workshop.

August 16–17, 2021 — Virtual workshop

This workshop will be offered virtually via Zoom, but will be hands-on! Supplies will be mailed to participants in advance. There is no stipend offered, but clock hours may be available for teachers from Washington and Oregon.

Full details TBA.

October 8–9, 2021 — Virtual workshop

This workshop will be offered virtually via Zoom, but will be hands-on! Supplies will be mailed to participants in advance. There is no stipend offered, but clock hours may be available for teachers from Washington and Oregon.

Full details TBA.

Register for a workshop

Registration is currently open for all three workshops.

We are very excited to offer our first in-person workshop in over a year! We anticipate it will be very popular, but because capacity for the in-person workshop in Oregon is so limited we ask you to please consider a virtual workshop if you are able to attend one.

Our registration form asks you which workshop is your first choice, your second choice, and your third choice. We will register you for only ONE workshop, doing our best to place everyone into their preferred session. Please keep an eye on both your inbox and your spam folder for emails from nwessp@uw.edu as we work with you to confirm registrations and to ship any supplies you will need in advance for the virtual workshops.

If interest warrants, we will try to hold one more workshop before summer ends, so please do submit a registration form so that we can accurately gauge need.

Registration form

Registration is now closed for our October 2021 professional development workshops.  We hope to host one more workshop in November -- please stay tuned to our website for announcements.
