All teams who register and participate in the ROADS on Mars Challenge will receive a NASA certificate of participation.

The ROADS challenge has three grade ranges:

  • Spirit — Grades 3-4
  • Opportunity — Grades 5-8
  • Curiosity — Grade 9-12

ROADS — School year challenge

The winning team from each School Year Regional Challenge Event will send one Opportunity or Curiosity team consisting of 5 team members and 1 adult to participate in a ROADS on Mars showcase and for the launch of Mars 2020 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida.  Only one team from each Hub will earn this trip. The trip is contingent on the launch being on schedule.

Only U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents are able to attend the Grand Prize visit to Kennedy Space Center, and all team members visiting the center must be registered team members at the time of their regional Challenge Event — no substitutions are allowed. Anyone visiting the center must be at least 11 years old at the time of the visit. Due to this restriction, Spirit teams are not eligible to attend the Kennedy Space Center visit.

ROADS — Summer camp challenge

The prizes for teams participating in the challenge during summer camps in 2020 will be announced when finalized.
